Ingredients
  

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • 4 teaspoons baking powder
  • 2 teaspoons sugar
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 2/3 cup milk

Method
 

  1. Step 1: Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
  2. Step 2: In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, salt, cream of tartar, baking powder, and sugar. Whisk until well blended.
  3. Step 3: Add the shortening to the dry mixture and cut in until it resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Step 4: Pour in the milk and stir gently with a fork until the dough comes together.
  5. Step 5: Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead gently. Pat into a rectangle about 1/2 inch thick.
  6. Step 6: Cut into rounds or squares and place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  7. Step 7: Bake for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown.
  8. Step 8: Let cool on a wire rack for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

  • Store biscuits in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days.
  • Freeze wrapped biscuits for up to 3 months for longer storage.
  • Reheat in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for about 10 minutes.
