Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup softened butter
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 1/4 cups all-purpose unbleached flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 24 Hershey's Kisses (any flavor)
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar (for rolling)
  • 2 teaspoons orange zest (for a fresh twist)

Method
 

Baking Instructions:
  1. Step 1: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) for even baking.
  2. Step 2: Line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking.
  3. Step 3: Beat the softened butter and 3/4 cup of sugar until light and fluffy (about 2-3 minutes).
  4. Step 4: Add the egg and vanilla extract, mixing until combined.
  5. Step 5: Whisk together flour, cream of tartar, baking soda, and salt in a separate bowl.
  6. Step 6: Gradually mix the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients until just combined.
  7. Step 7: Roll tablespoon-sized portions of dough into balls, coating them in sugar and orange zest.
  8. Step 8: Place the dough balls on the baking sheet, spaced 2 inches apart, and bake for 8-10 minutes.
  9. Step 9: Press a Hershey's Kiss into the center of each cookie right after baking.
  10. Step 10: Cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a cooling rack.
