Ingredients

  • 1 cup lukewarm water not too hot or cold
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar feeds the yeast
  • 1 tablespoon honey adds sweetness
  • 1 packet instant dry yeast (about 2 teaspoons, or 1/4-ounce)
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour provides structure
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil adds moisture
  • 1 teaspoon salt enhances flavor

Equipment

  • Slow Cooker
  • Mixing bowl
  • Spoon or Dough Scraper
  • Kitchen Towel
  • Non-stick Cooking Spray or Olive Oil

Method

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the lukewarm water, granulated sugar, honey, and instant dry yeast. Stir gently and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
  2. Once the yeast mixture is frothy, add the vegetable oil, salt, and 2 cups of all-purpose flour. Stir to combine, then gradually add the remaining flour until a soft dough forms.
  3. Turn the dough onto a floured countertop and knead for about 5 minutes, adding flour as necessary, until the dough is smooth and elastic.
  4. Shape the dough into a ball and place it back in the mixing bowl. Cover it with a kitchen towel and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until it has doubled in size.
  5. Grease the inside of the slow cooker with non-stick cooking spray or olive oil.
  6. Once the dough has risen, punch it down to release air. Shape it into a loaf and place it in the slow cooker. Cover with the lid and cook on high for 2-3 hours.
  7. When done, carefully remove the bread from the slow cooker and let it cool on a wire rack. Slice and enjoy your delicious Slow Cooker Bread!

Notes

  • Make sure your yeast is fresh for the best rise.
  • Experiment with add-ins, like cheese or nuts, to personalize your bread.
  • If your slow cooker tends to run hot, check the bread a little earlier to avoid overcooking.
