Cuisine: Indian

Ingredients

For the Naan:
  • 1-2 cups all-purpose flour (plain flour)
  • 1 teaspoon dried instant yeast
  • ½ teaspoon table salt
  • 1 pinch sugar
  • ¾ cup warm water
  • 3 tablespoons oil
  • ¼ cup salted butter (for brushing)
  • 2 teaspoons dried garlic flakes
  • 2 teaspoons dried cilantro

Equipment

  • Mixing bowl
  • Rolling Pin
  • Cast iron skillet or non-stick pan
  • Spatula
  • Small bowl

Method

Directions:
  1. Step 1: Activate the Yeast - In a small bowl, combine the warm water, sugar, and dried yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
  2. Step 2: Prepare the Dough - In a larger mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour and salt. Once the yeast mixture is frothy, add it to the flour along with the oil. Mix until a dough forms.
  3. Step 3: Knead the Dough - Transfer the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Step 4: Let it Rise - Place the kneaded dough in a greased bowl, cover with a towel, and let it rise in a warm area for about 1 hour.
  5. Step 5: Prepare the Garlic Butter - Melt the salted butter and mix in the dried garlic flakes and dried cilantro.
  6. Step 6: Shape the Naan - Punch down the dough, divide into equal portions, and roll each into an oval shape, about ¼ inch thick.
  7. Step 7: Cook the Naan - Heat a skillet over medium-high heat. Cook each naan for 1-2 minutes on each side until golden brown.
  8. Step 8: Brush with Garlic Butter - Immediately brush the cooked naan with the garlic butter mixture.
  9. Step 9: Repeat - Continue with the remaining portions of dough. Serve warm and enjoy!
