Ingredients

  • 1 cup Canola, Vegetable, or Olive Oil (for coating the mix)
  • 1 ounce Ranch Dip Seasoning Mix (1 packet, recommended McCormick Ranch Dip)
  • 4 cups Popcorn (popped; 2 to 3 tablespoons unpopped kernels for popping)
  • 3 cups Pretzels (waffle-style recommended, I use Snyder's)
  • 1 cup Nuts (optional; peanuts, almonds, cashews, or your favorite mixed nuts)
  • 3 ounces Parmesan Cheese (grated; freshly grated for best flavor)

Equipment

  • Large mixing bowl
  • Baking Sheet
  • Oven
  • Measuring cups
  • Popcorn Popper

Method

  1. Step 1: Pop the Popcorn. Begin by popping your popcorn. You can use an air popper or stovetop method; just ensure you have about 4 cups of popped popcorn ready to go.
  2. Step 2: Prepare the Pretzels. While your popcorn is popping, measure out the pretzels. If you’re using waffle-style pretzels, they will add a nice texture to your mix.
  3. Step 3: Combine Ingredients. In a large mixing bowl, combine the popped popcorn, pretzels, and any nuts you choose to add.
  4. Step 4: Mix in the Seasoning. In a smaller bowl, mix the ranch dip seasoning with the oil. Drizzle this mixture over your popcorn and pretzel mixture. Stir well to ensure everything is evenly coated.
  5. Step 5: Add Parmesan Cheese. Sprinkle the grated Parmesan cheese over the mix. Toss again until the cheese is well distributed throughout the snack mix.
  6. Step 6: Optional Baking. For an extra crunch, spread the mix onto a baking sheet and bake at 350°F for about 10-15 minutes, stirring halfway through. This step is optional but enhances the flavor and texture!
  7. Step 7: Cool and Serve. After baking, allow the mix to cool completely before serving. Store in an airtight container for the freshest taste.

Notes

  • For a spicier kick, consider adding a dash of cayenne pepper or red pepper flakes to the ranch seasoning mix.
  • Feel free to experiment with different types of cheese—cheddar or a spicy cheese blend can also work well.
  • Store the mix in a cool, dry place to maintain its crunch.
