Ingredients

Ingredients
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 ¾ teaspoons coarse sea salt
  • ½ teaspoon active dry yeast
  • 1 ½ cups warm water

Equipment

  • Large mixing bowl
  • Spoon or spatula
  • Plastic wrap or kitchen towel
  • Dutch oven or heavy oven-safe pot
  • Parchment paper (optional)

Method

Instructions
  1. Step 1: Combine Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, combine the 3 cups of all-purpose flour, 1 ¾ teaspoons of coarse sea salt, and ½ teaspoon of active dry yeast. Stir together until well mixed.
  2. Step 2: Add Water: Pour in the 1 ½ cups of warm water. Using a spoon or spatula, mix until the flour is fully incorporated, and a shaggy dough forms.
  3. Step 3: Cover and Let Rise: Cover the bowl with plastic wrap or a kitchen towel and let the dough rise at room temperature for 12 to 18 hours.
  4. Step 4: Prepare for Baking: After the dough has risen and doubled in size, turn it out onto a well-floured surface and shape into a ball.
  5. Step 5: Second Rise: Place the dough seam side down on a piece of parchment paper. Cover it with a towel and let it rest for about 1 hour.
  6. Step 6: Preheat Oven and Dutch Oven: Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C). Place your Dutch oven in the oven to heat up for about 30 minutes.
  7. Step 7: Bake the Bread: Carefully remove the Dutch oven. Use the parchment paper to lift the dough and place it into the pot. Cover with the lid and bake for 30 minutes.
  8. Step 8: Finish Baking: After 30 minutes, remove the lid and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown.
  9. Step 9: Cool and Enjoy: Remove the bread from the pot and let it cool on a wire rack for at least 30 minutes before slicing.

Notes

  • For a more flavorful bread, try adding herbs or cheese to the dough.
  • Make sure your yeast is fresh for the best rise.
  • Let the bread cool completely before slicing for the best texture.
