Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 3 tablespoons molasses
  • 2 teaspoons sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons peanut butter
  • 2 cloves garlic, finely minced
  • 2 teaspoons sriracha sauce
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground pepper
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch

Equipment

  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Mixing bowl
  • Whisk or spoon
  • Storage Container

Method

  1. Start by measuring out all the ingredients. This will streamline the cooking process and ensure that you have everything ready to go.
  2. In a mixing bowl, add the soy sauce, molasses, sesame oil, rice vinegar, and peanut butter. These ingredients form the base of your sauce and provide a balance of sweet and savory flavors.
  3. Finely mince the garlic cloves and add them to the mixture, along with the sriracha sauce and ground pepper. Stir everything together until well combined.
  4. If the sauce is too thick, add the water one tablespoon at a time, stirring until you reach your desired consistency.
  5. In a small bowl, mix the cornstarch with a splash of water to create a slurry. Add this slurry to your sauce mixture and whisk until fully incorporated.
  6. Give your Homemade Hoisin Sauce a taste and adjust the flavors as needed.
  7. Transfer the sauce into a storage container and seal it. Your Homemade Hoisin Sauce is now ready to use!

Notes

  • Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to two weeks.
  • You can freeze the sauce in ice cube trays for longer storage.
  • Adjust sweetness or spiciness by adding more molasses or sriracha.
