Ingredients

  • 1 stick butter or margarine softened to room temperature
  • 2/3 cup Hersheys cocoa the star ingredient
  • 3 cups powdered sugar for sweetness and texture
  • 1/3 cup milk to achieve spreading consistency
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract adds depth

Equipment

  • Mixing bowl
  • Hand mixer or stand mixer
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Spatula
  • Storage Container

Method

  1. Begin by taking your butter or margarine out of the fridge and let it sit at room temperature until softened.
  2. In your mixing bowl, add the softened butter. Beat the butter until it's light and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes.
  3. Sift in the Hersheys cocoa powder and mix on low speed until well combined with the butter.
  4. Gradually add the powdered sugar, one cup at a time, mixing on low speed until combined.
  5. Pour in the milk and vanilla extract. Beat until smooth and creamy. Adjust consistency with more milk if necessary.
  6. Taste your frosting and adjust sweetness with more powdered sugar or a pinch of salt if too sweet.
  7. Frost your cake or cupcakes using a spatula or piping for a creative presentation.

Notes

  • Store frosting in an airtight container in the fridge for up to one week.
  • This frosting freezes well for up to three months.
  • For a lighter color, reduce cocoa powder or mix with melted chocolate.
