Method:
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, 1.25 cups of milk, and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract until well combined.
- Take each slice of thick white bread and dip it into the egg mixture, allowing it to soak for a few seconds on each side.
- In a frying pan or griddle, melt 1 tablespoon of unsalted butter over medium heat.
- Place the soaked slices of bread onto the pan, cooking for about 3-4 minutes on each side until golden brown.
- In a small saucepan, combine ½ cup of milk, ½ cup of packed light brown sugar, ¼ cup of unsweetened cocoa powder, and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract. Cook over medium heat, stirring continuously until smooth and thickened, about 3-5 minutes.
- Once the French toast is golden, stack a few slices on a plate, drizzle with chocolate sauce, and top with fresh strawberries.
- Serve immediately while the toast is still warm.
Notes
- Prepare the egg mixture the night before to save time in the morning.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days.
- Reheat slices in a toaster or frying pan over low heat.
