Ingredients

For the French Toast:
  • 8 slices thick white bread (e.g., Texas toast)
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1.25 cups milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 0.5 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 0.25 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
For the Chocolate Sauce:
  • 0.5 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (for the chocolate sauce)

Equipment

  • Large mixing bowl
  • Whisk
  • Frying pan or griddle
  • Small saucepan
  • Spatula
  • Measuring cups and spoons

Method

Method:
  1. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, 1.25 cups of milk, and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract until well combined.
  2. Take each slice of thick white bread and dip it into the egg mixture, allowing it to soak for a few seconds on each side.
  3. In a frying pan or griddle, melt 1 tablespoon of unsalted butter over medium heat.
  4. Place the soaked slices of bread onto the pan, cooking for about 3-4 minutes on each side until golden brown.
  5. In a small saucepan, combine ½ cup of milk, ½ cup of packed light brown sugar, ¼ cup of unsweetened cocoa powder, and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract. Cook over medium heat, stirring continuously until smooth and thickened, about 3-5 minutes.
  6. Once the French toast is golden, stack a few slices on a plate, drizzle with chocolate sauce, and top with fresh strawberries.
  7. Serve immediately while the toast is still warm.

Notes

  • Prepare the egg mixture the night before to save time in the morning.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days.
  • Reheat slices in a toaster or frying pan over low heat.
