Ingredients
  

  • 2 tablespoons butter for rich flavor and a golden finish
  • 1/2 cup orzo pasta adds a delightful texture
  • 1/2 cup finely diced onion for sweetness and aromatic depth
  • 2 medium cloves garlic minced for robust flavor
  • 1/2 cup uncooked white rice the base of the pilaf
  • 2 cups chicken broth for moisture and savory notes
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 tablespoon fresh parsley finely chopped, optional for freshness

Method
 

  1. In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Once melted, add the finely diced onion. Sauté for 3-4 minutes until translucent. Add the minced garlic and cook for 1 more minute.
  2. Add the orzo pasta to the saucepan, stirring for 2-3 minutes to toast it slightly.
  3. Incorporate the uncooked white rice and stir well. Pour in the chicken broth and bring to a boil. Reduce heat to low and cover.
  4. Simmer for 15-20 minutes until the rice is tender and liquid is absorbed. Avoid lifting the lid frequently.
  5. Remove from heat, fluff with a fork, and season with salt and pepper. If desired, sprinkle with fresh parsley before serving.

  • Use vegetable broth for a vegetarian option.
  • Substitute brown rice, adjusting cooking time.
  • Try different small pastas like ditalini or couscous.
