Ingredients
  

  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • ¼ cup light brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 6 tablespoons cold butter cut into pieces
  • 1 cup cold heavy cream plus 2 tablespoons
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1 cup chocolate chips
  • Turbinado sugar for sprinkling on scones

Method
 

  1. Step 1: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Step 2: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, granulated sugar, brown sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until well combined.
  3. Step 3: Cut the cold butter into the flour mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Step 4: In a separate bowl, whisk together the cream, egg, and vanilla extract until well combined.
  5. Step 5: Pour the wet ingredients into the dry mixture and gently stir until just combined.
  6. Step 6: Fold in the chocolate chips until evenly distributed throughout the dough.
  7. Step 7: Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and pat it into a circle about 1 inch thick. Cut into 8 wedges.
  8. Step 8: Place the scone wedges onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Brush with cream and sprinkle with turbinado sugar.
  9. Step 9: Bake for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown.
  10. Step 10: Allow to cool on a wire rack before serving.
