Ingredients

For the Chicken:
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • ½ teaspoon ground paprika
  • ½ teaspoon kosher salt
  • ½ teaspoon ground black pepper
  • ½ cup unsalted butter (1 stick, divided)
  • ½ cup diced yellow onion
  • 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
  • 2 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 1 cup heavy cream (room temperature)
  • 1 serving cooked penne pasta
  • to taste chopped fresh parsley (for garnish)

Equipment

  • Large Skillet
  • Cutting Board
  • Sharp Knife
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Wooden spoon or spatula

Method

Preparation Steps:
  1. Begin by halving the boneless, skinless chicken breasts lengthwise. This will help them cook evenly and quickly. Pat them dry with a paper towel, then season both sides with garlic powder, chili powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and pepper.
  2. In a large skillet, melt 2 tablespoons of the unsalted butter over medium-high heat. Once the butter is bubbling, add the seasoned chicken breasts. Sear them for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until they are golden brown and cooked through. Remove the chicken from the skillet and set aside.
  3. In the same skillet, add the remaining butter and the diced yellow onion. Sauté for about 2-3 minutes, or until the onions are translucent. Add the minced garlic and cook for an additional 30 seconds, making sure not to let it burn.
  4. Sprinkle the all-purpose flour over the sautéed onions and garlic. Stir well to combine and cook for about 1 minute. This will help to thicken the sauce.
  5. Gradually pour in the heavy cream, stirring continuously to avoid lumps. Allow the mixture to simmer for 3-4 minutes until it thickens slightly. Taste and adjust the seasoning if needed.
  6. Return the seared chicken to the skillet, coating it with the creamy sauce. If you’re serving it over cooked penne pasta, add the pasta directly to the skillet and toss everything together until well combined.
  7. Transfer the Chicken Lazone to plates or a serving dish. Garnish with freshly chopped parsley for a pop of color and freshness. Enjoy your delicious creation!

Notes

  • This dish can be made ahead of time; just reheat the creamy sauce gently before serving.
  • Leftovers are even better the next day as the flavors meld.
