Ingredients
  

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • ¾ cup granulated white sugar
  • ½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 tablespoon instant espresso powder
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon Kosher salt
  • ¾ cup buttermilk
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 tablespoons butter melted
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • Sprinkles (optional)

Method
 

  1. Step 1: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Step 2: Lightly grease your donut pan with non-stick spray or butter.
  3. Step 3: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, cocoa powder, espresso powder, baking powder, and Kosher salt until well combined.
  4. Step 4: In a separate bowl, whisk together the buttermilk, eggs, melted butter, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  5. Step 5: Pour the wet mixture into the bowl with the dry ingredients. Gently fold the mixture together until just combined.
  6. Step 6: Fill each donut cavity about ¾ full with the batter.
  7. Step 7: Place the donut pan in the preheated oven and bake for 10-12 minutes.
  8. Step 8: Remove the pan from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes before transferring the donuts to a cooling rack.
  9. Step 9: In a small saucepan, heat the heavy cream over medium heat until it begins to simmer. Remove from heat and add the semi-sweet chocolate chips. Stir until smooth.
  10. Step 10: Dip the top of each cooled donut into the chocolate glaze and sprinkle with colorful sprinkles if desired.

Notes

  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
  • Freeze for up to 2 months by placing in a single layer on a baking sheet.
  • Reheat in the microwave for 10-15 seconds for best results.
