Cuisine: American

Ingredients

  • 1 pound green beans Fresh, trimmed, and cut in half if desired
  • 2 teaspoons olive oil Adds rich flavor
  • 1 clove garlic Minced
  • Salt and black pepper To taste
  • 3 tablespoons warm water Helps to steam the beans

Equipment

  • Large Skillet
  • Spatula or tongs
  • Measuring Spoons
  • Knife and cutting board

Method

  1. Start by rinsing your green beans under cold water. Trim the ends and cut them in half if you prefer smaller pieces. This step is essential for both aesthetics and ease of eating.
  2. Place your large skillet over medium heat and add the olive oil. Allow it to heat for about 1 minute until shimmering but not smoking.
  3. Add the minced garlic to the skillet and sauté for about 30 seconds. You want the garlic to become fragrant and slightly golden, but be careful not to burn it!
  4. Add the prepared green beans to the skillet. Toss them in the garlic-infused oil for about 2 minutes, allowing them to get coated with the flavors.
  5. Add the warm water to the skillet. Cover the skillet with a lid and let them steam for 3-5 minutes, depending on how tender you like your green beans.
  6. Once the green beans are bright green and tender-crisp, season them with salt and black pepper to taste. Serve hot and enjoy!

Notes

  • For extra flavor, add red pepper flakes for a spicy kick.
  • Fresh herbs like thyme or parsley can enhance the dish.
  • Leftover green beans are great in salads or stir-fries.
